IKEA, known for its furniture and home goods, is making strides in technology by introducing new smart home sensors to its lineup. The latest additions include a trio of budget-friendly smart home sensors designed to cater to various needs, such as monitoring open doors and detecting water leakage. These sensors are set to hit the global market in the first half of the upcoming year, with each priced at less than $10.
The first sensor, Parasoll, is a door and window sensor designed for easy mounting on any access point. It can pair effortlessly with Ikea light bulbs without requiring a separate Ike Home smart hub. The Vallhorn wireless motion sensor is also part of the new lineup and activates lights upon detecting movement. Lastly, the Badring water leakage sensor is equipped with a built-in siren and sends mobile notifications through the Ikea Home smart app for homes with an Ikea Dirigera hub.
These sensors are not only designed for functionality but also for seamless integration throughout the home, with a sleek and unobtrusive design. They are compatible with IKEA’s Dirigera Hub, as well as smart home ecosystems from Google, Amazon, and Apple. However, Parasoll and Badring sensors do not offer compatibility with the older Trådfri Home smart gateways from Ikea.
While the release of the sensors’ ability to seamlessly integrate with various platforms has been delayed, this is being done to ensure smooth transition to Matter networks, reflecting Ikea’s commitment to maintaining simplicity for those who venture into the realm of smart home technology while browsing for furniture.
IKEA’s move to enhance its smart home technology with the addition of these sensors is indicative of the company’s determination to make smart home products more accessible and affordable to all.
