Amazon Releases New AI Feature for Marketplace Product Images
Amazon continues to innovate and improve its online marketplace, despite facing federal antitrust charges. The tech giant has introduced a new generative AI feature that allows vendors to enhance their product images with AI-generated backgrounds on Amazon’s Ad Console service.
In a recent social media post by Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, the company unveiled the new feature. The AI product image generator allows advertisers to upload photos of their products and add AI-generated backgrounds. According to Amazon, incorporating lifestyle contexts in product ads can increase click-through rates by 40% compared to standard product images.
The process of using the new feature involves navigating to the Ad Console and creating new advertisements for products for sale on Amazon. Users can then enter the product serial numbers and customize the images by adding prompt text for the background image. However, there is a 300-character limit for the prompt.
The functionality of the AI product image generator is similar to other text-to-image generators such as OpenAI’s DALL-E 3 and Midjourney. Users input descriptive text prompts, and the AI generates an image based on the descriptions. Amazon’s promotional video also reveals an additional feature called themes. Users can enhance the generated background with props and objects from various thematic categories.
The new feature aims to make it easier for product sellers and advertisers to create brand-themed imagery, particularly those without in-house capabilities or agency support. While still in beta, it follows a similar feature announced by Meta Platforms for its advertisers on Facebook and Instagram.
