Archer Aviation, an electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) vehicle company, is preparing to introduce air taxi services in Abu Dhabi. This expansion marks Archer’s venture into international markets, expanding beyond its American base.

Under a memorandum of understanding with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), Archer plans to establish an air taxi service throughout the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The partnership with ADIO aims to position Abu Dhabi as the launch site for Archer’s international operations.

In order to support Archer’s establishment of its international headquarters and manufacturing facilities, ADIO intends to provide incentives within Abu Dhabi’s Smart and Autonomous Vehicle Industry (SAVI) Cluster. The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) is also working towards expediting the approval process for Archer’s air taxi to operate in the UAE, pending FAA certification.

The UAE demonstrates its commitment to embracing electric air taxis as a sustainable solution to congestion and zero emissions. The collaboration with Archer is expected to bring substantial foreign direct investment and the creation of thousands of jobs in the region over the next decade.

Archer Aviation has secured over $1.1 billion in funding, with investments from significant stakeholders like Mubadala Capital, United Airlines, Stellantis, and Boeing. Adam Goldstein, the company’s Founder and CEO, expressed excitement about the partnership with the UAE, stating that it is a significant step towards establishing international operations.

Archer has also formed partnerships with Falcon Aviation, which will oversee air taxi operations in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and GAL-AMMROC, which will provide vital maintenance, repair, and overhaul services for Archer’s eVTOL aircraft. The company aims to transform urban transportation by replacing lengthy car commutes with electric air taxis, offering faster and more efficient travel with estimated flight durations of 10-20 minutes.

The Midnight aircraft, designed for rapid consecutive flights, plays a crucial role in achieving this vision. As Archer prepares to showcase its Midnight aircraft at the Dubai Air Show, the company remains dedicated to shaping the future of urban air mobility in the UAE and beyond.
