Elon Musk’s Cybertruck is Now Shatterproof and Bulletproof

The highly-anticipated Cybertruck from Tesla, once praised by the company’s CEO Elon Musk for being shatterproof, is now set to support a bulletproof version, capable of stopping pistols and Tommy guns. Business Insider reports that the bulletproof version of the Cybertruck, labeled as ‘beast mode’ by Musk, will have bulletproof windows and a body that Musk previously claimed as “literally bulletproof to a nine millimeter handgun” due to its 3mm steel sheet plating. These features, however, will not allow users to roll down their windows.

The announcement indicates that all of Tesla’s Cybertrucks will have bulletproof bodies, and the glass will vary per version, with either a shatterproof window or a bulletproof window that cannot be rolled down. Experts have noted that while the Cybertruck will be capable of deflecting lower-caliber weaponry like handguns and Tommy guns, it will not withstand higher velocity or armor-piercing bullets.

In a recent demonstration, critics doubted Musk’s claims and asked for evidence after the Cybertruck’s windows famously shattered during a 2019 demonstration. The electric pickup is set to be released on November 30th, and will be available for an initial estimated cost of $50,000. Fox Business reports that investors are eagerly awaiting further information on the event, where Tesla will potentially increase its projected production number to 250,000 by 2025.
