Google’s AI-Powered Search Experience Expands to 120+ Countries and Territories – Now Available in Four New Languages
Tech giant Google has announced an expansion of its AI-powered search experience, known as Search Generative Experience (SGE), to more than 120 new countries and territories. This move comes in response to the initial launches in select markets, such as the United States, India, and Japan, with the aim of providing faster and more efficient access to information to a global audience.
Hema Budaraju, Senior Director of Product Management of Search at Google, stated in a blog post, “Now, in our largest global expansion yet, we’re bringing generative AI in Search to more than 120 new countries and territories, along with support for four new languages.” She also mentioned that there are upgrades, launching first in the U.S., that will make SGE more interactive as users search.
The Search Generative Experience utilizes generative AI to provide users with comprehensive overviews that aggregate the most relevant information related to their search queries. This innovative approach aims to offer multiple perspectives and enhance the discoverability of content.
The response to generative AI in Search has been positive in the countries where it was initially launched, with users finding the feature valuable for tackling complex questions.
One of the key upgrades introduced with this expansion is the ability to ask follow-up questions directly from the search results page, thus providing a more natural and interactive search experience. Additionally, support for four new languages – Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, and Indonesian – has been added to cater to a diverse global audience.
Another significant development accompanying this expansion is the introduction of Search Labs, a platform for testing early-stage experiments on Search, available on both the Google app for Android and iOS, as well as on Chrome desktop. This new feature allows users to opt into the SGE experiment within Search Labs, providing a new way to explore the capabilities of generative AI.
Further improvements include a feature to enhance the accuracy of translations by allowing users to indicate the specific meaning of potentially ambiguous words, particularly relevant for languages with multiple interpretations of a single word.
The expansion of Google’s AI-powered search experience is expected to offer a more inclusive and efficient search experience to users worldwide. The company’s commitment to using AI to enable broader access to information across different languages and cultures reflects its dedication to enhancing the search experience for users globally.
