GreenPower, a leading electric vehicle manufacturer, has recently unveiled its latest product, the Mega BEAST. This impressive all-electric Type D school bus boasts a massive range of nearly 300 miles on a single charge, making it the largest school bus on the market.
The Mega BEAST is equipped with a powerful 387 kWh battery pack, allowing for an extended range that is particularly appealing to school districts with longer routes or challenging weather conditions. In addition, the bus can accommodate up to 90 passengers and offers features such as air ride suspension, ABS disk brakes, and ample storage space.
According to Michael Perez, GreenPower’s Vice President of School Bus, Contracts, and Grants, the Mega BEAST not only extends the range but also provides a cleaner and healthier transportation option compared to traditional diesel buses. This is especially significant for school districts looking for sustainable solutions.
Perez stated, “The all-electric, purpose-built BEAST has set a new standard of performance, safety, and sustainability in the school bus market. With the introduction of the Mega BEAST, GreenPower is also setting a new industry standard in range and battery size.”
The Mega BEAST’s larger battery size also holds promise for Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) applications. The battery can serve as an energy storage solution beyond transportation needs, contributing to grid stabilization, promoting clean energy, and reducing costs. The Mega BEAST was unveiled at the National Association of Pupil Transportation’s (NAPT) Conference and Trade Show, addressing the critical need for longer-range school buses.
