Nothing Chats App Faces Major Security Concerns Regarding Apple ID Authentication

A new app called Nothing Chats which is designed to bridge the gap between Android’s messaging system and Apple’s exclusive iMessage is now causing major security concerns due to its authentication process. Users are worried about how they would log in and verify their Apple IDs for use with Nothing Chats.

Kishan Bagaria recently published his findings on X regarding the new Nothing Chats app, stating that the service is “extremely insecure.” Researchers have discovered that the Apple ID and iMessage login method used by Sunbird and Nothing are sent over plaintext HTTP instead of secure HTTPS. In addition, there are questions about the app’s end-to-end encryption support, as tested by Bagaria using BlueBubbles.

Recent briefs by Sunbird on the app refused to address technical questions, raising new red flags about the security of using Nothing Chats.

While no security issues have been confirmed, reports suggest users might want to avoid downloading the app and wait for Apple’s RCS adoption, which would bridge the gap between Android and iMessage.

Nothing Phone (2) users were excited to receive an Android app that connects them to Apple’s iMessage, but the security concerns surrounding Nothing Chats are causing doubts about its use with their Apple IDs. Apple’s exclusivity with iMessage has been a longstanding issue, but recent developments suggest that it could be adopted for Android in the future.

With the security concerns and Phone (2) exclusivity, using Nothing Chats comes with risks that might not be worth it for users. Copyright 2023 TECHTIMES.com All rights reserved. Do not reproduce without permission.
