Japanese company commits to lowering prices of AI computing to become the leader in providing the most cost-effective GPU cloud service globally.

Japanese company Third Wave is set to launch a unique cloud service called Raytrek Cloud, which allows users to run generative AI workloads, including large language models, simulations, and computer-aided design (CAD), directly from their PCs. The service does not require users to have the best desktop PCs or GPUs, as Third Wave will indirectly lease the necessary computing resources. This move by Third Wave reflects the increasing popularity and demand for AI technology.

Third Wave unveiled its GPU cloud at the Dospara Plus Synapse 2023 event, where it also announced its focus on developing servers and workstations for AI. In addition to the cloud service, Third Wave is working on hardware development and distribution.

The company has also introduced five new products, including the X4630 workstation, equipped with a 4th-Gen Xeon Scalable processor and NVIDIA’s RTX6000 Ada GPU. This aligns with Third Wave’s recent reorganization, wherein it launched the GALLERIA brand for consumer and gaming PCs, and created the Raytrek brand for enterprise-centric hardware.

The launch of Raytrek Cloud comes at a time when the company recognizes the exponential growth of available data in the coming years. Compared to a decade ago, there is now 60 times more data being produced. Akiya Ida, Director, Senior Executive Officer, and VP of Third Wave, acknowledged the power consumption issues faced by data centers used for cloud services. He believes that future AI systems will run both off the cloud and on-premises.

Raytrek Cloud offers businesses the opportunity to access remote workstations through a desktop as a service (DaaS) model. This allows for a range of tasks, such as CAD or building information modeling (BIM). Additionally, the GPU service can be utilized for high-performance computing in AI workloads, including generative AI and simulations.

Third Wave aims to distinguish itself as the most affordable AI cloud service provider, offering a monthly fee that is half to a third less expensive than major cloud companies, as reported by PC Watch. The service is also available on a pay-as-you-go basis, allowing for hourly or small incremental usage.

Through the introduction of Raytrek Cloud, Third Wave is poised to revolutionize the accessibility and affordability of AI technology, catering to a wide range of users and industries.
