Microsoft is Streamlining Windows 11 Operating System by Cutting Out Bloat
By Pierre Herubel

Windows 11 is undergoing a streamlining process as Microsoft eliminates some of the bloat from the OS. The latest move reported by Windows Latest is the removal of the Steps Recorder app. This app was originally introduced with Windows 7 and allows users to record their screen and steps taken when encountering a problem.

The Steps Recorder has been added to the deprecated features list for Windows 11. Microsoft has stated that it will no longer be updated and will be removed in a future release of Windows. The reason for its removal is that there are now alternative screen recording options available within Windows 11, such as the Snipping Tool, Xbox Game Bar, and Microsoft Clipchamp.

This is just the latest effort to declutter Windows 11, following the recent axing of the Tips app. Microsoft has also removed the Windows Maps and Movies & TV apps, and is allowing users to uninstall more default apps in testing.

Other moves aimed at streamlining Windows 11 include the introduction of the RGB hub, which allows users to control RGB lighting without the need for separate apps. With momentum building around this decluttering process, more pruning of Windows 11 from Microsoft can be expected in the future.

Overall, the effort to streamline Windows 11 is welcomed, and it is likely seen as a positive move for users. For more news, reviews, and deals, follow TechRadar on TikTok.
