Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon movie has debuted its official trailer, and it appears to have the potential to become Netflix’s epic sci-fi franchise. The movie is set to arrive on Netflix on December 22, 2023, marking the conclusion of the streamer’s Geeked Week 2023 lineup, which was presented during a special virtual event. Snyder unveiled the full-length teaser for Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire.
The trailer provides a glimpse of the story, featuring Kora, a stranger with a mysterious past who finds herself among a settlement of farmers on the moon called Veldt. The peace of Kora and her new friends is disrupted by the arrival of forces from the tyrannical Motherworld, leading Kora to embark on a journey to protect her home against insurmountable odds.
Rebel Moon is not just a standalone film, but part of a multi-pronged franchise that Zack Snyder plans to develop on Netflix. This ambitious project includes a narrative podcast, an animated comic book, and even a video game set within the Rebel Moon universe. The success of the first film will determine the fate of this expansive new IP.
In addition to the film’s release, a sequel titled Rebel Moon: Part Two – The Scargiver, is scheduled to debut on Netflix on April 19, 2024, with R-rated cuts of both movies expected to be released later next year.
It’s also worth mentioning that Snyder plans to create a director’s cut of Rebel Moon by combining the two films, resulting in an extended runtime of four and a half hours. This director’s cut is expected to surpass even the runtime of Snyder’s previously released director’s cut of 2019’s Justice League.
