“OpenAI’s Altman and Brockman Reinstated After Leadership Shake-Up”

OpenAI’s former CEO Sam Altman has returned to the company’s headquarters in San Francisco to advocate for his reinstatement along with other recently-departed leaders including Greg Brockman, the former chairman and president. The unexpected removal of Altman has sparked numerous speculations about the reasons behind it, with an internal memo circulating among the staff suggesting a “breakdown in communication between Sam and the board” as the primary cause for the ousting.

The decision to remove Altman reportedly did not respond to any misconduct or issues related to the organization’s finances, business operations, safety, or security/privacy practices. Altman has taken to Twitter to post a picture of himself wearing a guest badge, with sources from The Verge disclosing that he has imposed a decisive deadline for board members to reach a consensus by 5 PM PT.

While Altman continues to push for his reinstatement, the current impasse is attributed to the difficulty in reaching a consensus on the composition and responsibilities of the board in the event of Altman’s return. Allegedly, Altman is pushing for the removal of the current board if he is to make a comeback, along with other proposed “governance changes.” Additionally, Altman was reportedly engaged in fundraising efforts for a specialized AI chip project known as “Tigris,” aims to launch ambitious projects worth “tens of billions of dollars.”
