The Casper Original Mattress has long been a top model for the mattress world, but is it really as good as its reputation claims? Our thorough, unbiased review aims to answer that question for you.
We put the Casper Original Mattress to the test, sleeping on it for three weeks and running a range of assessments to see if it lived up to the hype. Unfortunately, we were underwhelmed by our experiences, finding it less impressive compared to various other leading mattresses listed in TechRadar’s rankings, despite the approachable pricing especially in light of ongoing Black Friday mattress deals.
It’s a testament to its marketing machine that it continues to have such a noticeable reputation, as we would rate its firmness at a median 5 out 10 on the firmness scale, deviating slightly from the Casper company’s own label of a ‘medium-firm’ feel. The mattress is quite soft, allowing for sinking around your body, though it suffers in the realm of support for the hip and lower back area, best suited for sleepers that rest on their side. Additionally, it fails to offer much in the way of pressure point or joint relief. Our testing found it to be quite motion isolating, an essential benefit for couples sharing a bed. However, the mattress unimpressively compromised in the area of edge support, being among the worst we’ve seen during testing.
When looking at the more specific details of this mattress, we notice some significant highlights and lowlights. The Casper Original is made of three layers of foam and memory foam, 11″ tall, and equipped with a removable knit cover. It delivers fair customer service with free shipping, a 10-year warranty, and a 100-night free trial featuring free returns.
With an all-foam interior, all of the materials are CertiPUR-US certified, and the overall design features a perforated top foam layer to assist in the quest for breathability. That said, the Casper Original is relatively pricey, especially considering how there are other mattresses on the market offering better performance at lower costs. While the Casper Original is currently on sale for Black Friday at a slightly reduced price, the deals aren’t substantial enough to drastically change the value proposition.
