Review of the Acemagic AX15 Laptop by TechRadar

Review

Acemagic is known for its high-quality Mini PC systems, but with the introduction of the Acemagic AX15, the company has entered the laptop market for the first time. The AX15, being the only product and SKU from Acemagic, is aimed at casual internet users and educational purposes.

Powered by Intel’s 12th Generation N95 processor and an old UHD Graphics GPU, the AX15 prioritizes durability and a good user experience. However, with only 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SATA SSD, the processing power is lacking, and the SSD is not as fast as an NVMe drive.

Windows 11 Pro comes pre-installed, but most of the expected software is absent, creating a bare user experience. The AX15’s build quality is solid, featuring a metal skin and a vivid 15.6-inch IPS display, but it lacks USB ports with higher bandwidth, which limits its potential.

As for price and availability, the AX15 is available for $299 directly from Acemagic and on Amazon. The specs of the AX15 include an Intel N95 processor, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage, all for an affordable price. However, customers outside of the US and Germany may have difficulty obtaining this hardware.

The AX15 design is elegant with its slim body and metal skin. It features a large keyboard, but no 10Gbps USB ports, and the absence of a Kensington lock makes it unsuitable for educational use. Its processing power also does not align with typical Windows laptops.

Powered by Intel’s entry-level N95 chip, the AX15 is incapable of handling regular Windows laptop demands. It has slow clock speeds, limited memory bandwidth, and only 9 PCIe lanes, resulting in constrained internal bandwidth. These limitations make it unsuitable for efficient Windows 11 performance and lack various essential features.

The laptop’s performance test revealed slow and staccato performance, with only a SATA SSD. The absence of pre-installed bloatware on Windows 11 Pro may have resulted in a better user experience, but the limitations in speed and processing power render the laptop inefficient.

With its lower price point and limited functionality, the Acemagic AX15 is a decent device for casual internet users and educational purposes, but it lacks the processing power and features found in more expensive and higher-end laptops.
