Samsung is set to introduce a new feature called Temporary Cloud Backup, which will allow users to save and transfer an unlimited amount of data for a limited period of time. This feature will store files on Samsung Cloud for up to 30 days from the initial save date and users can restore their data at any time within that period. Samsung will notify users seven days before the expiration of the time limit, after which the data will be automatically deleted.
While Samsung already offers users 15 GB of free cloud storage for each account, this storage is limited to content from native sources. However, Temporary Cloud Backup supports third-party apps in addition to photos, videos, audio files, and documents. It also eliminates the need for a PC or external memory device to transfer content.
The Temporary Cloud Backup feature will be accessible through the settings menu under General Management and the Maintenance Mode tool. Users can choose what they want to store on Samsung’s cloud and can easily restore the data whenever needed.
According to Samsung, this feature will ensure the safety of users’ data while their phones are at a repair shop or in the event of theft. It also provides a convenient way to hold files before performing a full reset or when transferring them to a new smartphone. Samsung Galaxy phone owners will have the option to configure Temporary Cloud Backup when setting up a new device after the update is released.
However, there are a few restrictions. Individual files cannot exceed 100 GB, and a Wi-Fi connection is required to move content. Additionally, only Galaxy smartphones or tablets operating on the upcoming One UI 6 can use this feature, which is currently in beta testing.
Temporary Cloud Backup will be rolled out globally this fall, starting with Galaxy S and Z series smartphones in South Korea. The release date for other countries, including the US and UK, is yet to be announced.
