Upcoming in 2024: Chevy Equinox EV Presents a $34,995 Starting Price, Offering Another Tesla Option

General Motors (GM) is set to launch the Chevy Equinox EV in 2024, with the aim of targeting the mass market and giving Tesla some competition, according to a report from TechCrunch. The base model of the Chevy Equinox EV will be priced at $34,995, slightly higher than the initial target of $30,000. However, it will have an impressive 319-mile range, surpassing the company’s expectations. The price includes the destination fee, and eligible buyers can take advantage of the $7,500 federal tax credit to purchase it for under $28,000.

In comparison, the rear-wheel Tesla Model Y has a range of 260 miles and starts at $40,390, dropping to $32,890 with the federal tax incentive. Scott Bell, Global Chevrolet’s Vice President, stated that the $34,995 price point is within their target range. He emphasized that the Equinox EV offers great value and will be the most affordable EV with a range exceeding 300 miles.

The Equinox EV is designed to blend style, space, safety, and value. It aims to appeal to customers with its expressive design, electrifying capability, and seamless EV technology. The vehicle will be offered in two personalities – LT and RS – with various trims, drive configurations, and range options.

Key features of the Chevy Equinox EV include a sleek design enabled by the Ultium Platform, innovative walk-up lighting, standard 19-inch wheels (with larger options depending on the trim), and an optional presence-based liftgate for hands-free operation. Inside the cabin, there is room for five passengers, personalized ambient lighting, and a smart infotainment system. Storage solutions and up to 57 cubic feet of cargo space are available with the rear seats folded.

To enhance comfort, amenities such as heated seats and steering wheel, as well as a heated windshield wiper park feature, are available. Chevrolet also offers support through the MyChevy app, including navigation and route planning. Ultium Charge 360, GM’s comprehensive approach to EV charging, provides access to over 110,000 public charging points in the US and Canada.

Bell stated that Chevrolet is committed to delivering a seamless EV experience. The Equinox EV promises a commendable range, spaciousness, and a suite of technologies for a comfortable and confident journey.

“The Equinox EV is an EV for everyone. It’s an affordable game-changer, offering an uncompromising experience, with more features, that won’t change your daily routine – except that you will no longer have to stop at the gas station,” Bell said in a statement.

Overall, General Motors is making a bold move with the introduction of the Chevy Equinox EV. With its competitive pricing, impressive range, and appealing features, it has the potential to give Tesla a run for its money in the mass market segment.
