Finland’s Varjo has launched the XR-4 series, the latest to the country’s Varjo, targeting potential applications in business and the military, promising experiences that appear “practically indistinguishable from natural sight.”
Varjo, a maker of industrial VR/XR hardware, claims that its immersive technology is used by over a quarter of the Fortune top 100 companies, contributing to astronaut and pilot training, enhancing automotive production, facilitating medical advancements, and producing 3D visualizations for architects and designers.
Varjo’s XR-4 series is aimed at pushing the boundaries of visual fidelity and performance in VR/XR experiences for industrial users. The headsets integrate high-resolution displays, foveated capture streams, advanced LiDAR depth sensing, and camera sensors, emulating the human eye to deliver virtual and mixed reality experiences that closely resemble natural sight.
Fueled by NVIDIA GPUs and NVIDIA Omniverse, the XR-4 series empowers developers and industrial users to generate lifelike scenes and activate ray tracing in mixed reality. It also supports more than 100 third-party PC applications and 3D engines, such as Unreal Engine and Unity.
Patrick Wyatt, Chief Product Officer of Varjo, expressed the company’s commitment to closing the gap between human vision and computer vision with the XR-4 series, stating that they are proud to drive the industry forward by bridging this gap.
Varjo’s XR-4 series introduces the gaze-directed autofocus mixed reality pass-through feature, a first in the VR/XR industry. It incorporates key features, including dual 4K x 4K displays, a wider field of view, and dual 20 Mpx cameras for high-fidelity real-time video pass-through mixed reality among others.
