Netflix is gearing up to premiere a collection of new animated shows, with one of the most highly-anticipated being “Blue Eye Samurai.” This show, set in 17th century Japan, follows the story of a mixed-race swordsman named Mizu seeking revenge while adopting a disguise. Created by Amber Noizumi and Michael Green, known for their work on “Logan” and “Blade Runner 2049,” “Blue Eye Samurai” has been described as a mix of “Kill Bill” and “Yentl”. Green promises that the show has something for everyone, from fans of “The Witcher” and “Game of Thrones” to lovers of animation and historical drama.
The show is centered around Mizu’s mission to kill the only four white men in the country, including one who may be her father, all while disguised as a man to navigate the gendered society. The voice cast includes Maya Erskine, Masi Oka, Darren Barnet, Brenda Song, George Takei, Kenneth Branagh, and other esteemed actors, with a primary focus on Asian talent. “Blue Eye Samurai” is described as a 2D/3D hybrid, incorporating technology from both mediums to achieve a visually stunning, handcrafted quality.
While the full series will be available to stream on Netflix from 3 November, the first episode is currently available to watch for free. With its unique blend of historical drama, revenge story, and stunning animation, “Blue Eye Samurai” is quickly gaining hype as one of the best upcoming Netflix shows.
