Google Acknowledges Issues with Android 14 Update on Pixel Phones, Promises Fix is Coming
In a recent update to Android 14, some users, particularly those with multiple profiles on their Pixel phones, have experienced significant problems. Google has officially acknowledged the issue and assured users that a fix is on its way.
The problem was initially reported a couple of weeks ago by Pixel 6 owners. Those who had more than one user profile configured on their phones found that the Android 14 update caused their devices to crash, prevented them from accessing local storage, or resulted in various other issues.
Since then, users of other Pixel devices, including Google Pixel 7 and Google Pixel Fold, also came forward to report similar problems. Some users could not access their phones at all and were stuck at the starting screen or in a boot loop.
In response to the escalating complaints, a community manager posted on the official Pixel Phone Help forums, confirming that Google is aware of the issue caused by multiple profiles, including guests and child users. However, the problem does not seem to occur with multiple Google accounts on the same phone. Engineers are currently working on fixes to resolve these issues.
To mitigate the problem, Google has already released a Google Play system update to prevent the issue from affecting additional devices. Users can check if they have received the update by navigating to Settings, then Security & Privacy, System and Updates, and finally Google Play system update on their Pixel device.
For users who have not experienced the bug yet, Google advises against setting up secondary users until a full Android 14 update is released. This suggests that the Google Play system update may not completely resolve the issues related to multiple users on Android 14.
If users are already facing problems and the Google Play system update does not solve them, their best option is to wait for the upcoming system update. Google assures that this update will restore access to local storage without any data loss and that they are also working on data recovery options for those stuck in boot loops.
“We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused and appreciate your patience,” stated the forum post. It further mentions that more information will be provided as soon as it becomes available. Although this may not offer much consolation to users who have lost access to their files or phones, it is reassuring to know that the issue is being actively addressed.
